17 Sep Where is the Best City to “Start-up?”
“Where is the most favorable startup environment?”
This is a question we get asked often here at Bravuz, and every time we open this conversation, we inevitably return to our home base — Portugal.
A 2016 study backed by Allianz Kulturstiftung, ranked Lisbon as the fifth-best-performing startup community in Europe — ahead of Stockholm and Dublin
In 2016, over $130 million dollars of new funding was secured (40% of the total financing raised in the 2010–2016 timeframe), this means Portugal is growing 2 times faster compared to the European average.
Lisbon is forging its way to a leading startup hub in Europe.
Another component of the Portuguese eco-system is its resources. Investors, funding, money, talent, community, incubators, accelerators — these are all vital parts of a vibrant startup community that is growing consistently.
If this hasn’t convinced you enough that Portugal is the place to be then listen to this.
In March of 2018, Portugal launched its Startup Visa, the first of its kind in all of Europe.
Portugal’s new startup visa requires no minimum investment and offers access to EU grants, writes Jose Mineiro.
The qualifications to obtain the visa are fairly simple:
- have a tech startup (can be an idea and not a developed project yet) with potential for high-growth.
- Applicants must present their proposal and get accepted into a startup incubator in Portugal.
We might be a bit biased here but we’ve seen and worked with incredible startups and founders that have made entrepreneurial history here in Portugal.
